At Brazionis Eyecare, we are a family friendly optometry practice that caters for the whole family. It’s never too early to start protecting your child’s eyes. A kids eye test today can help with early treatment, and prevent issues from developing further. If you have a family history of myopia or other eye conditions, it’s wise to have your child’s vision assessed early.
As kids grow their eyes continue to change and develop. It’s why eye tests are so important for kids and should be part of regular development checks. We recommend a comprehensive eye test twice a year for young kids, and annually for older, to pick up any developing problems. Kids often have trouble explaining difficulties with their vision, and may not even know they have a problem at all! Regular kids eye tests are essential to identify problems earlier.

Early identification of a child’s vision problem is crucial.
Sixty per cent of children who are ‘problem learners’ have been found to suffer from undetected vision problems. Undetected vision problems are estimated to affect approximately one in four Australian children – or 600,000 nationally – which may contribute to potential learning difficulties in reading, writing, viewing a whiteboard, computer use and other classroom activities.
Outdoor exercise can slow down myopia
Common Eye and vision problems that affect young children include:
- Focusing problems
- Eye teaming problems
- Amblyopia (commonly referred to as “lazy eye”)
- Strabismus (one eye looks directly at the object you are viewing, while the other eye is misaligned inward)
- Convergence insufficiency (a condition that causes one eye to turn outward instead of inward with the other eye creating double or blurred vision
